5 Reasons Your Makeup Isn't Lasting All Day
You've got a big day ahead. Out of the house at 7.30am for the daily commute, a busy morning in the office, an afternoon of meetings followed by a dash to the supermarket and out for a birthday dinner. You apply your favourite makeup products to see you through this hectic 12 hours, but by 2pm it's barely there. Sound familiar? Read on
1.) Your skin is dehydrated
One of the main reasons for foundation pilling is dehydrated skin. Dehydrated skin can turn even the most longwearing of products into a patchy mess. If you notice patches of foundation disappearing throughout the day, this is why. Your skin is in desperate need of some water, so draws the water from your base to boost its hydration, leaving behind patches of pigment on the skin.I find the best way to combat this is drinking lots of water (around 3l a day), layering lightweight hydrators (I love a face spritz followed by a hyaluronic acid serum and a super light moisturiser) and taking omega 3 supplements daily.2.) You're using too many products
Yes, time is tight on a morning, but if you're rushing your regime then there's no way your make up is going to last. Applying your foundation while your moisturiser is still soaking in is a big culprit. I like to wait around 5-10 minutes between my skincare and makeup application. I normally sort my hair or grab some breakfast while I'm waiting.3.) You're not using a primer
If you've tried to combat the above and your makeup still won't stay put, you need a heavy-duty base. A good primer will prepare the skin for makeup, enhancing its appearance and longevity. Pick a formula suited to your skin type “ hydrating primers will prevent dry patches while primers for oily skin prevent a mid-afternoon oil slick.4.) You're not using the right foundation formula
Primer not quite doing its job? It's probably down to your foundation formula. Dewy formulas are great but there aren't going to be long lasting on oily/combination skins. Now is the time to do a little research, read reviews and a find a formula that suits your skin type and concern.5.) You're not setting your makeup correctly
If you're using cream/liquid formulas, it's going to be hard to get a 12 hour wear from them if you're not setting them in place. Many avoid powders through fear of looking cakey, but a translucent powder keeps everything in place without adding any additional coverage or colour to the face. A setting spray is great to finish everything off, plus it can be used throughout the day to freshen up your look.
