Your Carry-On Skincare Checklist: What to Pack for Flights & Holidays

Luggage and packing for holiday

It’s that time of year – holiday hauls galore, stressing about which products to bring in your tiny liquids bag, checking and double checking you’ve got everything you need. While you usually go on holiday to relax, sometimes the preparation and knowing what to bring can be more stressful than relaxing.

This year, we’re here to help you prioritise your skincare checklist for your next holiday. We’re all about keeping it simple and not over complicating your summer skin routine, so keep reading for our recommended carry-on essentials!

What should be in your carry-on bag?

With limited space, comes a limited number of products you can have in your carry-on bag. Although you may be worried about leaving your 10-step skincare routine behind, when travelling to hotter climates keeping your skincare routine as simple as possible is your best bet for managing your skin while on holiday. Our essentials are:

Cleanser

Cleanser is always an essential product to have in your carry-on. If you’re heading onto a long flight, having your cleanser on hand is a nice way to refresh your skin before landing in your destination. It’s also so important to make sure you’re cleansing and thoroughly cleaning your face after a long warm day of reapplying SPF and creating build up on the skin. A great cleanser for a wide variety of skin types is the Dermalogica Ultracalming™ Cleanser.

Serum

Dryness, irritation and sensitivity are all things that you may experience whilst on holiday. The change in temperature combined with excess sun exposure has an impact on your skin, which is why packing a hydrating or soothing serum is so crucial. A great hydrating serum keeping irritation and dryness at bay is the La Roche-Posay Ultra Dermallergo Serum as it is enriched with neurosensine, a dipeptide derivative that soothes the skin.

Moisturiser

Air travel can be extremely dehydrating, as the low humidity on planes can leave your skin dry and tight. This can be combatted with a hydrating moisturiser to quench dryness and lock in the effects of your previously applied serum.  Finding the balance between a moisturiser that is lightweight enough for daily use in hot weather but thick enough to fully hydrate on a flight can be difficult, but a good balance of the two can be found in the CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion. This lightweight moisturiser has ingredients that pack a punch, like ceramides and hyaluronic acid to keep the skin hydrated without being greasy thanks to MVE Delivery TechnologyŽ which provides a controlled release of the formula.

SPF

SPF is a non-negotiable every day, but especially on flights and holidays. UVA and UVB rays can impact the skin significantly whilst on a flight, because the strength of UV rays increases at higher altitudes as the atmosphere becomes thinner. When you arrive at your destination SPF is equally important because of the increased exposure to the sun. The La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVmune Invisible Tinted Fluid SPF 50+ is one of La Roche Posay's sunscreen selection and is great for all skin types due to its lightweight, hypoallergenic and anti-eye stinging formula!

Aftersun

We’ve all been there – returning to your hotel room after a long day in the sun to find that you’ve burnt. Many of us have the best intentions when spending time in the sun, aiming not to burn or damage the skin but sometimes its unavoidable. Whether you’ve just missed a spot whilst applying suncream or haven’t reapplied throughout the day, sunburn can be really damaging to the skin and have a lasting impact. While prevention is always better than the cure, having the right sunburn relief tools to help soothe the burn will help you to maintain your skin health. The Ultrasun Aftersun is the perfect gel texture that is sure to soothe the skin and any sunburn related inflammation you’re experiencing.
